After the great hurricane of 1893, there were reports of sightings of a ghostly figure floating over the rocks at the shore of Sands Point, New York. It was thought to be the ghost of Amelia Lancaster who was lost at sea on August 15 1893.
Her spectral form was always seen accompanied by two large jellyfish that appeared like lanterns in the night sky. On particularly foggy evenings, witnesses claimed that she guided small boats to safety with her "jellyfish lights"
