Oscar Pennington traveled to the Northwestern United States to seek out the mythical horned mammal known as the Jackalope. He discovered that were not as uncommon as he had perceived. The common jackalope usually traveled from town to town during the early years of the gold rush selling all manner of cure-alls and tonics. They were often run out of these towns when the very specific instructions of their medicines were not carefully followed. Their products did work, but the side effects included extreme hair loss, vibrating limbs, rabbititis(seeing spots), and shrinkage of the head just above the brow(also known as "pinhead disease")
